Each year most of the European monarchs give a speech to Parliament (or Senate, etc.) to mark the official opening of the new Parliament year. This ceremony is often called the State Opening of Parliament or Speech from the Throne.

- Denmark (1st Tuesday in October)
- Does not give a Speech
- Liechtenstein
- Luxembourg
- Netherlands (3rd Thursday in September)
- Norway (1st Wednesday in October)
- Spain (No fixed date, occurs every 4 years, unless parliament is dissolved early)
- Sweden (September)
- UK (No fixed date)
