The BAFTA Film Awards are an annual award show hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). The awards celebrates films released in the UK during the previous year. Most categories are open to films from any country and people of any nationality. There are a few categories that are limited to British Films/ British nationals: Outstanding British Film and Outstanding Debut, British Short Film and British Short Animation awards.
In recent years the awards have taken place in mid-February. The awards are not always attended by a British Royals. But, when one does attend, it is usually the president of BAFTA (possibly with their spouse).
