King Carl Gustaf gives an annual Christmas Speech. The speech is pre-recorded and airs at 7:45 PM on Christmas Day. The speech is often released earlier in the day ahead of its official airing on TV.

History

King Carl Gustaf gave his first Christmas Speech in 1972, as Crown Prince, a few months before his reign began. Originally the speech was aired on the Radio. It was first broadcast on TV in 2007.

Before King Carl Gustaf's reign, Christmas Speeches were held irregularly.
