His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini, Aga Khan IV died on Febuary 4th, 2025, at age 88. He passed away in Lisbon, Portugal surrounded by Family.
Prince Karim Al-Hussaini was the 4th Aga Khan, a sort of islamic spiritual leader and the 49th hereditary Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims. The princely title comes from him being a descendant of the Kings of Persia.
Prince Karim Aga Khan was the founder and chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network.
Succession:
While the position of Aga Khan / Imam of the Shia Ismaili Muslims is hereditary, it does not automatically go to the eldest son. The Aga Khan appoints it's successor.
The day after the 4th Aga Khan's death, his Will was unsealed. He named his eldest son, Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini, as his successor. Prince Rahim Al-Hussaini is now the Aga Khan V.
Funeral:
- Saturday Feb 8th
- Private funeral at the Ismaili community centre in central Lisbon (11 AM )
- The guest list will include a few hundred people and foreign dignities.

- Private burial ceremony in Aswan, Egypt

- Special Homage ceremony in Lisbon where the new Aga Khan will receive senior leaders of the Jamat.
