King Philippe of Belgium - 2020 Christmas Eve Address (English Translation)

Ladies and gentlemen,

Every year we look forward to celebrating Christmas and New Year's Eve together with family, our children, parents and grandparents - with friends. Those precious moments bring us security, warmth and light, in these cold, dark and sometimes lonely winter days. That is what the Chain of Light also stands for: a symbol of connection and hope.

This year everything is different. Tonight we celebrate Christmas in our bubble, or alone. Because we have to keep it safe. Fortunately, love and friendship can bridge any distance.

The pandemic affects all of us, albeit in different ways. Unfortunately, many of us pay a heavy price for this. Many have died.

The challenges remain enormous, but the end of the crisis is really within reach in the coming months. We can gradually make new plans and have confidence in the future. But without a doubt, we come out differently.

What lessons can we learn from this crisis?

First of all: we can handle this.

Our healthcare system has stood firm, thanks to the extraordinary effort and dedication of so many healthcare providers.

Then there are all the people who keep the country going day and night - by continuing to work, running their businesses, or continuing to provide public services. Or simply by offering help where it is needed.

And in recent months, the country has shown itself to be incredibly generous. So many fellow countrymen have volunteered. We have seen good examples of this. Someone is keeping an overworked nurse's children. Another does the shopping for the neighbors. Students teach primary and secondary school students online - or lend a hand in the hospital. A chef who has had to close his restaurant is now preparing dishes for the homeless. And Professionals from the event sector make their know-how available to residential and care centers. And there are many more examples.

The pandemic plaguing us for almost a year, we share the same uncertainty, the same concerns.

It has made us see and appreciate things differently.

We have become aware that we are all vulnerable. Much has been said in recent months about how we are living this crisis - we have listened to each other and we have understood each other.

Let us continue to speak honestly and frankly.

The lockdown gives us a better understanding of what people who are excluded or lonely have to endure.

More than ever, we must ensure that no one is excluded anymore. That everyone gets a place in society.

This crisis has made visible how much we depend on each other. And we have learned to dare to acknowledge that. When we respect and trust each other, that dependence is a strength on which to lean.

Out of necessity, our individual freedom is limited by the measures taken in the fight against the coronavirus, which sometimes has serious consequences. But we can accept those limitations, instead of enduring them. Our freedom is only meaningful if we can experience it together with others and use it for the well-being of others, of the whole of society.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The day will come when we will again interact in a relaxed manner; that grandparents take their grandchildren on their lap; that we return to church, synagogue, mosque and temple without restrictions; enjoy a concert together; that we celebrate again, in complete freedom, ...

I would like to conclude with a message for young people.

I know you are having a hard time.

We ask a lot from you and it is true that your life has been put "on hold".

But soon all this will be over and you can spread your wings again, make your dreams come true. And you give us the inspiration to work together for a better world.

Ladies and gentlemen,

The Queen and I, and our entire family, look forward to next year with you. A year in which we can fully embrace the future again.

Royal Military Academy Sandhurst is one of several military academies in the UK. This academy is used as initial training for officers in the British Army.

There are 3 Sovereign's Parades each year to mark the graduation of the Commissioning Course for Regular Army officers, which is 44 weeks long. There are 3 of these courses a year: (January-December, May-March, and September-August). There is a separate graduation for the Commissioning Course Short.

When possible, the Monarch's representative is someone already scheduled to attend the event. (I.e. Foreign Monarchs are the representative when their children are graduating.)

King Willem Alexander of the Netherlands's Greek Holiday Apology - English Translation

With a heavy heart, I speak to you.

Our trip to Greece has provoked strong reactions from many Dutch people. It hurts to have betrayed your trust in us.

Even though the trip was in line with the regulations, it was very unwise not to consider the impact of the new restrictions on our society.

Our own decision to return was made with the realization that we should not have gone.

From the start of the Coronavirus crisis, we have done our best - within the limits of the corona policy - to find space and to be there as much as possible for everyone who is looking for support in uncertain times.

It is a difficult time for everyone. A time of loss, limitations, and worries. Of fear, anger, and insecurity too. We have heard the moving stories in many meetings, in person, and digital. We feel connected with you and with all those people who have been directly or indirectly affected.

We will continue to work with you to get the Coronavirus under control. So that everyone in our country can then resume normal life as soon as possible.

That is now the most important thing and we will continue to do so, to the best of our ability.

We are involved. But not infallible.

Royals on Time Magazine's 100 Most Influencial List (2004-Present)

In 2004, Time Magazine started an annual list of the 100 Most Influential People in the world. The list recognizes those who have changed the world in the past year, regardless of the consequences (good or bad) of their actions.

The list regularly includes humanities, movie stars, politicians, dictators and terrorists.

The list below shows the royals have been included in the Time 100 list. The person's name is linked to the Time's article for that year explaining why they were chosen.

King Harald of Norway's Coronavirus Speech - English Translation (March 15th 2020) **

                    Dear all,

We find ourselves in a situation that is both unreal, strange and frightening for all of us. We do not recognize our everyday life or the world around us. And yet, we are only standing at the beginning of something we do not fully know the consequences of.

                    Uncertainty makes us vulnerable.
                    The seriousness makes us anxious.
The new everyday life can give us a feeling of powerlessness.

Norway is affected along with the rest of the world.

Now, our most important task is to try to slow down the dramatic development - by following the orders given by the authorities.

We can be grateful that we have political leaders and agencies with the courage and knowledge to meet the situation with honesty and realism.

Norway is known as a trusting society. Now there is a special need to show each other trust. Both that everyone takes responsibility for preventing the spread of infection. And for the country's authorities to make good and wise decisions.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all now.

With you who are sick and those who are dependents.

With health care professionals across the country who are working day and night. With you who are experiencing financial losses and fears for the future. With all of you who attend to important social functions so our country can act.

With all the children - who may be particularly anxious now - and whom we must take extra care of.

And with those who feel the loneliness because our small and large communities are temporarily taken away from us.

Finally, I would like to remind you that everyone needs a little extra kindness during this time. Together we stand in this. And together we will be able to get through what lies ahead.

                    2020 British Garden Parties

Each year, the Queen hosts 3 Garden parties at Buckingham Palace and 1 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse. Each year, there are also a few Garden parties at Buckingham Palace, hosted by different royals for their Patronages.

We usually see each working royal attend one of the Queen's 3 Buckingham Palace garden parties. Plus, they may host one of their own.

**Queen's Garden' Parties: For many Royals, attendance is often not announced ahead of time, so do expect the usual people, even if they aren't currently listed. **
