Royals at Wimbledon (2024)


Royal attendance is not usually announced in advance (except for those attending in an official capacity).  But look out for: 

President/Patron: Princess Kate (Patron of Wimbledon & LTA) & Duchess of Gloucester (Honorary President of LTA)
Other Royals: Queen Camilla, Duchess Sophie, Prince & Princess Michael of Kent, etc.  
Foreign Royals: (varies each year) 
Extended Family: Phillips/Tindalls, The Kent & Gloucester's children, Middletons/ Matthews, Camilla's sister, etc.

The Royals almost always sit in the Royal Box at Centre Court. The day's matches in the Centre Court usually begin at 1:30 PM, except during the final weekend when matches begin at 2 PM. We will not see a royal attend every day. Expect higher attendance during the 2nd week.

    I think anytime a royal is in the hospital or having a major health event, there is public concern. I have compiled this information for the purpose of allowing the public to better understand the royal's health history.

    All information I share is publicly available information that has been released by the palace. Out of respect for the royals, I don't include any rumors or anything not confirmed by the palace or royals.

      Luxembourg Transition of Power - Q&A (2024)

      To answer questions related to Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg appointing Prince Guillaume as Lieutenant-Representative. Leave your comments below and I will pick some questions to answer. 

      Q1: What is a Lieutenant-Representative?

      A: The Lieutenant-Representative of the Grand Duke is a member of the Royal Family (usually Heir Apparent) who is appointed to represent/ act as monarch. This is a similar to a regent, but the Monarch is not stripped of their powers or duties. 

      Lieutenant is position in many Armed Forces, however it is not being used in a military context here. Lieutenant refer to the person second in command. The word come from the french "lieu" (place/position) + "Tenant" (holding). So, Lieu-tenant is a placeholder for a superior, during their absence.

      Q2: How is this different than a regency?

      A: Most Monarchies only have the option for a regent/regency, or abdication.  The Lieutenancy is sort of a half way to Abdication/Regency. The Heir is given powers to act as Monarch, but the current monarch is not stripped of their powers.

        • Current monarch is usually incapable/unable to perform their duties (often due to illness or age, with some monarchies due to being abroad).

        • Current monarch keeps position, may keep some powers, duties
        • Heir (or other adult) is given position as Lieutenant-Representative (i.e. acting moanrch), with all (or some) power and duties of monarch. 
      Q3: Why announce it now and wait until October to make Prince Guillaume Lieutenant-Representative?

      A: When you are able to plans things in advance, often people will schedule things for special/significant dates. The announcement came on Luxembourg's National Day (June 23rd). While the palace hasn't confirmed the exact date of Prince Guillaume becoming Lieutenant-Representative, we know it is in October. And I expect it will be October 7th, the anniversary of Grand Duke Henri's accession.

      Prince Guillaume (Hereditary Grand Duke) with Grand Duke Henri


      Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg announced on National Day (June 23rd, 2024), that he is appointing his son/heir Prince Guillaume as Lieutenant-Representative in October. This is the intermediate step in a regime change. 

      Article 42 of Luxembourg Constitution

      The Grand Duke may have Himself represented by a Prince of the blood, who shall bear the title of Lieutenant of the Grand Duke and who [shall] reside in the Grand Duchy.

      This representative shall take an oath to observe the Constitution before exercising his powers.


      Grand Duke Henri is NOT Abdicating at this point (but probably will in a few years). By appointing Prince Guillaume as Lieutenant-Representative Grand Duke Henri is able to pass certain powers and duties to his son. But Grand Duke Henri will remain Monarch/Head of State. 

      The announcement was made during Grand Duke Henri's Speech at the annual National Day Ceremony at Luxembourg Philharmonie

      "In this context, I want to, with the Grand Duchess, Prince Guillaume and Princess Stéphanie, to inform you that I have decided this October to transfer the lieutenancy to Prince Guillaume."

      This is a list of the patronages held by Queen Elizabeth II at the time of her death that have been confirmed to be discontinued. 

      The palace has not released a full list of patronages continued and discontinued. So, we have had to search through Queen Elizabeth II's patronages manually. This list is not complete, but represents what we know of (as of June 2024).

      Patronages Not Picked by Another Royal

      This list is patronages we have confirmed have not been picked up by another royal, following the palace's review of patronages. 

      One of the main reasons a patronage is discontinued is because the organization has changed in some way. This could include: decline in membership/living members, organization restructuring, cause no longer important or of national interest, change in leadership or focus, etc
