Queen Elizabeth Final Patronages - Discontinued Royal Patronages

This is a list of the patronages held by Queen Elizabeth II at the time of her death that have been confirmed to be discontinued.

The palace has not released a full list of patronages continued and discontinued. So, we have had to search through Queen Elizabeth II's patronages manually. This list is not complete, but represents what we know of (as of June 2024).

For more, check out Queen Elizabeth II's Final Patronages - Main Page

Patronages Not Picked by Another Royal

This list is patronages we have confirmed have not been picked up by another royal, following the palace's review of patronages.

One of the main reasons a patronage is discontinued is because the organization has changed in some way. This could include: decline in membership/living members, organization restructuring, cause no longer important or of national interest, change in leadership or focus, etc

      • Queen Elizabeth II (1976-2022)
  • Berkshire Archaeological Society

      • Queen Elizabeth II (?-2022)
    • From Summer News Letter: "In 1891, Queen Victoria became patron of the Society. The letter from Lord Ponsonby confirming the Queen’s patronage is held in the Royal Berkshire Archives. Successive monarchs: Edward VII, George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II renewed their patronage. When Prince Charles became King, we were informed that there would be a review of Royal patronages and in May I received a letter that confirmed that King Charles would not continue as our patron. This change is not surprising. In 1891, the excavations at Silchester had just started and fieldwork was largely sponsored by the elite. Nowadays, archaeology is firmly embedded in UK and European culture and is largely a professional activity directed by central and local government, supported by Historic England and a small but active archaeological industry and university archaeology departments."

Her Late Majesty, The Queen, was Colonel-in-Chief AGC and before the formation of the AGC in 1992, she was the Colonel-in-Chief of the RMP when it was an independent Corps hence her gracious patronage of the RMP Association.   The Duchess of Gloucester is now Colonel-in-Chief AGC."

      • Queen Elizabeth II (?-2022)
    • From Email: This decision comes as part of a major review of all Royal patronages, necessitated by the reduction in the number of official members of the Royal Family following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. As a result, a considerable number of Royal Patronages are being concluded. While we acknowledge that the reduced footprint of the Royal Household requires these changes, it is important to highlight that His Majesty remains our esteemed Colonel-in-Chief, a role he cherishes deeply. Despite the loss of patronage, His Majesty's unwavering support and leadership as our Colonel-in-Chief will undoubtedly continue to inspire and guide the regiment.

      • King Edward VIII (1936)
      • King George VI (1936-1952 )
      • Queen Elizabeth II (1952-2022)
    • From Email: As you will no doubt be aware, His Majesty already had a long list of charities of which he is the Patron, so the Royal Household took a decision to review Her Late Majesty’s 600 patronages and unfortunately, Reedham Children’s Trust was not given a new Royal Patron. We were always grateful to Her Late Majesty for her patronage over so many decades, and of course we entirely understand that His Majesty regrettably could not “absorb” all of her patronages.
