Victoriadagen is the official celebration to mark Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden's Birthday. The tradition started on Victoria's 2nd Birthday in 1979. At the time of the first Victoriadagen celebration Victoria was not yet heir apparent, being displaced by her younger brother then Crown Prince Carl Philip. The government had already agreed to change the succession rules which went into effect on January 1st, 1980.

Victoriadagen is usually held on Crown Princess Victoria's birthday, July 14th. For milestone celebrations there are multiple days of celebrations and the event is referred to as Victoriadagarna (Victoria Days).

Events

  • Walkabout at Solliden Palace
    • Usually attending: King Carl Gustaf & Queen Silvia, and Crown Princess Family
  • 21 Gun Salute at various "salute stations" at Noon
  • Concert at Borgholm Castle
    • Usually Attending: King Carl Gustaf & Queen Silvia, their children & spouses, Princess Estelle & Prince Oscar
During the concert the Victoria Award (Victoriastipendiet) is presented to a Swedish sportsperson who has performed an especially meritorious achievement during the year.

July 2023 Q&A

When we first started this blog, we had Friday Q&A, where we would answer readers' questions. That eventually ended as people were just asking me questions on Twitter all the time. And it seemed easiest to just answer them there.

We have decided to resume our Q&As, as I often get asked the same questions again and again on social media. And this gives me a chance to give a longer, more detailed answer.

Submit your questions. We aren't able to answer everyone's questions but from time to time will try to pick one that is asked a lot, or is particularly interesting, or relevant.

Q1: Do you think the Princess of Wales will attend more of Wimbledon and if so when?

Princess Kate normally attends Wimbledon 3 times during the tournament. Usually once during the 1st week and then attends during the last two days for the finals.

You can find charts of past attendance here

Q2: When is Princess Claire's baby due

The Luxembourg Palace did not give any information about when Princess Claire's due date is. So, we don't know exactly. But it seems like it would be early 2024.
